Quick answer
The free SEO audit reads your homepage and up to nine pages, runs nineteen technical and on-page checks, asks Google PageSpeed Insights for mobile and desktop scores, and writes a plain-English summary of what to fix first. You get a score out of 100, a prioritised fix list and a PDF, in about a minute, with no email required and nothing stored.
TorontoMost sites we audit in North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, East York, Downtown and the Beaches fail on the same three things: slow mobile loading, missing descriptions and no structured data. We fix all three on every site we build across Toronto. We work with you by video and on site where it helps.
What does the free SEO audit check?
Nineteen checks in five groups, run on your homepage and up to nine pages linked from it. Nothing is guessed: every line in the result names what was measured and on how many pages.
| Group | Weight | Checks |
|---|---|---|
| Technical | 25 | HTTPS, robots.txt, XML sitemap, indexability (noindex), canonical tags, mobile viewport |
| On-page | 25 | Title length, duplicate titles, meta descriptions, one H1 per page, image alt text, Open Graph tags |
| Performance | 30 | PageSpeed Insights mobile and desktop scores, Core Web Vitals from the mobile lab run |
| Structured data | 10 | JSON-LD present on the pages and parsing cleanly |
| Links and size | 10 | Broken internal links among up to 60 checked, pages over 300 KB of HTML |
A pass earns the check's points, a "check" earns half, a fail earns none. The five groups add up to the score out of 100.
How is the score worked out?
Each check carries a fixed number of points, listed in the table above by group. Your category score is the share of points earned in that group, and the overall score is the weighted sum. The same site scores the same way every time, apart from the PageSpeed numbers, which come from one lab run and move a little from run to run.
Priorities follow the points: a failed check worth five points or more is High, a failed check worth less is Medium, and a "check" worth less than five is Low. The fix list is sorted that way so the first item is the one worth doing first.
Where do the speed numbers come from?
From Google's PageSpeed Insights, the same tool Google publishes, run once for mobile and once for desktop while you wait. The Core Web Vitals shown are lab numbers: Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift and Total Blocking Time from that run. When Google also has field data from real Chrome visitors to your site, the report says so.
Who writes the plain-English summary?
An AI model, given only the scored results above and told to use nothing else: no invented numbers, no ranking promises, no competitor talk. The facts it was given are the ones on the page, so you can check every sentence against them. When the summary cannot be written, the scores and the fix list stand on their own.
What happens to my site's data?
Nothing is stored. Our crawler reads your pages with a clear user agent, BuildSitesAuditBot, honours your robots.txt, waits no more than ten seconds per page and reads no more than 1.5 MB of each. The results exist in your browser tab and in the PDF it builds; the PDF is generated on your device and never uploaded. The only thing we count is how many audits run, by a daily-salted hash of your connection, to keep the tool free for everyone.
If your robots.txt asks crawlers like ours to stay out, the page checks are skipped and the audit says so; PageSpeed still runs because Google fetches the page itself.
What does the audit not do?
It does not check rankings, backlinks, keyword volumes or content quality, and it does not validate structured data against the full schema.org vocabulary: it confirms the JSON-LD is present and parses. Those need paid data or a human, and this tool uses neither. It is the technical and on-page half of an SEO audit, done honestly and in a minute.
What do I do with the results?
Start with the first item in the fix list. If you would rather hand the whole list to someone, every BuildSites website plan includes the fixes this audit finds and the maintenance that keeps them fixed: $297 USD a month, plus applicable taxes, with no upfront build cost. What a care plan covers and the local SEO basics explain the rest; book a 20-minute call to get it done.
Questions we get asked
Is the SEO audit really free?
Yes. No email, no account, no card. The only limit is three audits an hour per visitor and a daily total across everyone, so the tool stays available.
How long does an audit take?
About a minute: reading the pages takes a few seconds, Google's PageSpeed runs take fifteen to thirty seconds each and run at the same time, and the summary takes a few seconds more.
Can I audit a site that is not mine?
You can enter any public website address. The audit reads only what the site shows every visitor, honours its robots.txt and stores nothing.
What does the score mean?
A weighted total out of 100 across technical, on-page, performance, structured data and links. 80 and above is good, 50 to 79 needs work, under 50 is poor. The fix list says what moves it.
Why is my score different from another tool's?
Every tool checks different things with different weights. Ours is published in the table above, so you can see exactly what counted. PageSpeed numbers also vary a little between runs.
Can I get the report by email?
Not yet. Download the PDF from the results; it is built in your browser and belongs to you. An optional email delivery is planned as a separate, consent-based form.
